1969 Dodge D300 1 Ton Wheels
1969 Dodge D300 1 Ton Wheels
I currently need to purchase new tires (two fronts and four rears) for my 1969 Dodge D300 1 ton truck. It has duals on the rear to support a grain bed. I am considering going with 16 X 7.50 radial tires instead of going with bias ply which will require a boot and tubes. My wheels are break away rims, 8 bolts. I can't use them if I go with radials. New radial wheels are about $128.00 each. Should I make this change? Should I go with a wheel large than 16"? Any experience that this community can share would be most appreciated.

Would used 16" one piece dually wheels from say a 70's or 80's Dodge D/W300 truck work? Seems like they wouldn't be hard to find. Maybe a Ford F350 rim?

you can mount radials on a split rim wheel. I have done it for years and my local truck shop has done the work for me. You do have to use a tube for radial tires.

I also have run radial on split rims. no big deal. ford and dodge used the same rim dimensions for years and the chevy 8 lugs work but you have to enlarge the hub hole. Chevies run wimpy bearings so the hubs are smaller. ;/)
