Maybe someone here can tell me if the frames are the same?Mounting holes? So if i found a nice 2wd truck and wanted to convert to 4wd would the frame already have the holes there for mounting things like the transfer case? Yes i know buying a 4wd would be the smart thing. But this way i could buy rebuilt parts and start out with a fresh truck.
I would guess that putting the linkage together would be about the biggest pain. Opinions?
2 and 4wd frames
Re: 2 and 4wd frames
Welcome to the site! We spent a few days
in Williams while visiting the Grand Canyon. Is Rod's Steak House
still going strong? ....
I'm in the process of doing a 2wd to 4wd conversion. On my
'61 D200 frame, there are no pre-drilled holes for the transfer
case cross member. I'm not sure if other frames are different
without looking. Also, if you plan on using 3/4 ton [or 1 ton]
axles, a D100 frame would probably need to have the spring
perches bored or changed to accept a proper spring/bolt. The
other item is the transfer case shift lever[s]. You'd need to
drill holes for the lever bracket. I'm sure others will chime in
on this topic.

Re: 2 and 4wd frames
Thanks for the reply.Yes Rods is still there. I guess i was figuring the production line would just use one frame for the trucks. At least half ton trucks anyways.
