Scarebird hubs dust cap

Post by Txas2step »

Does anybody have the part # for the dust cap that goes with the scarebird hubs? I just realized the full set I purchased from a member a few years ago does not have them. Thanks, Chris.

When I installed my Scarebird kit over a year ago, the hubs they provide had been made from turned down Diplomat hub+rotor pieces. I used Dorman 13996 dust caps and they fit just fine, had them lying around from a 77 Aspen (F- and M- bodies shared many suspension and brake parts). Here's a link to amazon:

I purchased a complete front axle, spring and scarebird brake set up from a member in Mississippi ( he delivered it to Houston :Thumbsup ). The hubs were the original d-100 and was missing a bearing dust cap. The listing at Napa for the d-100 ( 1-9/16") was not the correct size. Actual size is (1-3/4"). Napa part # that fits:730-2412. :Thumbsup

This unit has about 2k miles on it. New king pins, tie rod ends. Going on the '61.

I was interested when I saw this thread since I just dealt with this issue myself. After reading the comments from other members I realized my experiences were somewhat different. The hubs I bought from Scarebird did not come with dust caps so I called to find out what I needed to order or what the hubs were machined for. The reply was Dodge Diplomat, 77-88. I went to get a set and found first of all they were not a regularly stocked item and secondly they were ridiculously high-priced (no matter where I checked they were ~ $23 each!). After getting the parts distributor to offer them at a lower price, I ordered them. When they arrived I found that they didn't fit and in fact were not even close. I got out my calipers and found the hubs were bored to 1.810". The dust cap mating diameter measured 1.840". I did some checking on the Dorman site and found a Chevy caps that had the correct diameter. They were much cheaper (about $4) and were a regular stocked item. I just went to find the part number to pass that on but could not locate it. I'll keep checking but if you run across the same issue, go directly to the Dorman website.

Thanks for the info, that could help me find the correct ones. To get scarebird help is like pulling teeth :banghead I had to send 14 emails to find out about the rear hub saeals, and still did not get confirmation on the correct part number. I found the right seals through other members. Thank all you guys for the help.
