1969 W100 Suspension Travel?

Post by riffraff »

I just installed all new, custom made, leaf-springs on my 1969 W100, and the something went wrong with the spring build. My fronts leafs are inverted, with something less than a inch distance to the bump-stops. Rears ended up lower than what I took off too, with a little less than 5" to the bump-stops.

The spring manufacturer is going to have UPS pick up the springs, and add/correct the leafs, but I was was wondering, what is the stock suspension travel on 69+ W100?

Check with Terry [aka PwrWgnDrvr]. He has a '70[?] W100 with the 383.

Have yet to hear back from PwrWgnDrvr, if anyone else could take a couple measurements, that would be a great help.

Thanks!

Are you looking for full drop measurements? I believe some time ago I had a spread sheet with number that have you eye to eye shock length and had the number in inches for travel. I'll dig it up tomorrow and get back to you.

Not exactly sure what "full drop measurements" are, but anything I/we can reference to get a sense of where the truck would have been as stock, would be a huge help.

What I need for the spring builder is to tell him how many more inches of lift to add, front and rear.

I was thinking the distance from the top of the leaf-pack to the bottom of the frame-rail, at the locating pin, might be the easiest and most consistent to check.

Really appreciate the help. Tom

Full drop is a reference to the spring at full drop meaning you have the truck on a lift raised off the ground and the leafs are free of the vehicles weight resting on them. So from what I gather and what I can tell you based on my truck the springs are about 5 inches from the top leaf in the pack to the frame rail. These are original leafs never arched or rebuilt as far as I know. If I had to guess I'd say mine are bent out of shape. I know springs tend to settle and after years of use de arch. It'd probably be best to call eaton springs and tell them exact specs of your truck ie motor size, make, modle, 1/2 or 3/4 ton 2wd or 4wd and they can give you the exact numbers and even give you the measurements of + 1,2 or 3 inches over. I hope this helps and or was somewhat useful.

Thanks for the measurements. What do you have from the top of the spring pack to the bump stop (effective travel)?
