Swap from power steering to manual

Post by Tony292 »

Since owning my D200, I have dealt with the factory crappy power steering that leaks like crazy and has some play in it as well. The leaks caused me to have to remove the belt and basically I've been driving it around with no power steering for a while. I also put on some skinny 235/85/16s and it is manageable now without power assist. I just want to make it right and convert over to a pure Maual system. Does anyone even sell the steering box and drag link? Can I just plug off the the line fittings and run my power box like a manual box? Then I would just need the drag link correct?

There are probably shims inserted in your front axle at the spring mounts that
will have to be removed.... assuming the P/S system was original to the truck. :study :Thumbsup

The steering box is the same for both manual and PS equipped trucks.

you will need to change the pitman arm, drag link, and remove the shims.

Anyone know where I can find the right pitman arm? The shims are already out as I had them removed along with a couple of leaves a while back to lower the front of the truck.

Why would you NEED to change the pitman arm and remove the shims?

Shims change the caster angle. Power steering equipped trucks had different alignment specifications than those with manual steering.
