Working on the brakes of the '61 D100 this week and I ran across this bit of farmer fix-it:
The wood has to have been there for at least 30 years and probably more.
So...what do you think?

My guess is that the U bolts are oversized, and rather than look for ones that fit they used the wood to make up the difference.

I finally found out what was up. I was at the muffler shop getting the exhaust system redone. The guys there say that the truck used to have helper springs on it. That's a leftover U bolt that was probably rusted on. Instead of cutting it off, grandpa just stuffed a shim in there so it wouldn't rattle around. It's gone now.
