King pin replacement components

Post by greenmachine318 »

I have a few questions in regard to king pins. What are the best replacements you guys recommend? There are a few I have found. Question being pros and cons of various brands and components IE Nylon vs Brass vs needle bearing types.

Don''t go with the nylon. Not worth the few dollars saved after all the expense and labor involved

I didn't believe the Nylon ones would be any good thanks for clearing that up. Now between the brass and bearing type whats the general experience you guys have had good or bad with the ease or steering cornering and everything else involved.

I did the nylon bushings years ago in my 66. Hardly ever use the truck except for fooling around with firewood sales in the winter. Truck started back wandering all over the road after a few thousand miles. Went with the brass bushings and that along with some other fixes tighten up the steering. Can't say for certain if the brass bushings made the steering any easier. Can say that when I checked the nylon bushings for slop after a few thousand miles, there was a bunch. Slop with the brass bushings still not present.

See my previous reply. You definitely notice a difference. Think about the difference in friction going from 2 flat surfaces to ball....
