Scarebird brake install HELP needed!!

Post by moparbay »

I am in the process of installing the Scarebird front disc conversion and have run into a snag. The drivers side caliper will not clear the steering arm. The bottom of the caliper hits the steering arm and I am at a loss of what to do next. Here are some pictures the last picture is the picture in the instructions (not sure what truck they used but the steering arm is on the back side of the spindle and the steering gear is in front of the axle???):

Has anyone else run into this issue and how did you fix it? Thanks

I am not sure, but it looks like you have the right caliper on the left side and vice-versa. Check it out from my D200. Jim

I thought of that so i read the instructions again and it said the opening of the bracket faces the front of the truck. I have an email in to scarebird but i may just reverse the sides tomorrow and it should fit like that.

It appears you have them on backwards. The calipers should be to the rear.

They might be on backwards, if so, scarebird needs to change their instructions. I will let you guys know what they say when they reply to my email. Thanks guys for the help :salut

They might be on backwards, if so, scarebird needs to change their instructions. Scarebird agrees, they are on backwards. I guess I need to review the instructions for the 26th time to see if I over looked something, but I am positive the instructions are wrong. This must be early signs of senility. Thanks guys for the help. :salut

I would have to agree with the others, might be on backwards. I just got mine all plumbed and working a few weeks ago, and they are working Great!

Yes the instructions are wrong and I informed Scarebird of this. The caliper mounts to the rear, not the front.

Make sure you put the calipers on the right side also with the bleeders facing up... You'll never get em bled with them on backwards...ask me how i know... :banghead

There are many caliper assemblies that have bleeders at the top and some that have them at the bottom. There are some that have both top and bottom bleeders. While bleeding top mounted bleeders may be easier, bleeding bottom located bleeders is still achievable.

Thanks for all the help, I have the kit installed and bled. I am waiting for the weather to warm up to install a proportioning valve in the rear brakes to improve the pedal.
