is there a thread for that cherokee disc swap? I toured the junk yard and found loads of these things. Looks easy just curious about which axle hub do you use.

there are lots of threads on xj websites...I'd thought id had a dana 30 in the rear turns outbit was an 8 1/4. The hardest part was enlarging the hole in the backing plate to fit.

The Chrysler, 8.25, 8.75 and 9.25 axle flanges are all the same, so backing plates are all interchangeable. You can also upgrade your 61-71 drums to the later 2.5 x 11 drums which can be found on any 81-93 9.25 D100 rears, [the D150 rears will have 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern, the 100's still ran the 5 on 4.5, 1985 was the last year for the 4.5 pattern] which is much better than the 61-71 type. The only differences are the e-brake cables, but that can be modified pretty easily.
The Grand Cherokee route sounds like a pretty easy swap if your looking for disc's. :Thumbsup

There was no D100 from 80-83 and from 90 on. The wheel lug pattern was still 5 on 4.5 for the D150s in 80-83, and all or at least part of 84. The 4wd trucks used the larger pattern from 80 on.

I agree there was no D100 in 80-83 and they were the only D150's with 5 on 4.5. 1984-86 there were D100's. 1986 was the last year for the D100-Series all together. I know for sure the 1984-1986 D100-Series had 5 on 4.5 and the D150-Series was 5 on 5.5. 1987-93 was all D150 and no D100's.
I owned both an 1984 & 1985 D100 with the small bolt pattern and a 1985 D150 with the large pattern.

So, for clearity the 84-up D100's and only 80-83 D150's will have the 5 on 4.5, all the D150's except 80-83 will be 5 on 5.5.
80-93 D100's and D150's both had 2.5" x 11" brake drums.

Here are the brochures for the 87-89 D100s, which they did make. The 87 brochure has no year on it but there are 4 listed on ebay stating they are 1987.

I don't know?? I just grabbed my factory service manuals and after reading, there is a lot of conflicting information on the D100's and D150's during these years.
The manuals specifically list that from 1987-up they cover D & W 150, 250 & 350 trucks, which is what I always thought to be accurate and what I based my responses on......as we have found out from our Adventurer options and standard equipment, the sale brochures appeared to be inaccurate and now after reading the FSM I have my doubts on them too.

After looking at them, it is tough to say one way or the other, hear are some examples:
1986 D & W 100-350 Dodge Manual, VIN 6th position: Series 1=100, 2=250, 3=350.
1989 D & W 150-350 Dodge Manual, VIN 6th position: Series 0=100, 1=150, 2=250, 3=350.
1993 D & W 150-350 Dodge Manual, VIN 6th position: Series 0=150S, 1=150, 2=250, 3=350.

1986 Model Line-up and weights, listed for 115" WB:
D100 - GVWR 4950, Payload 1499, Curb Weight 3451.
D150 - GVWR 4950 & 5900, Payload 1494 & 2370, Curb Weight 3456 & 3530.

1989 Model Line-up and weights, listed for 115" WB:
D100 - GVWR 4950, Payload 1351, Curb Weight 3599.
D150 - GVWR 4950 & 5900, Payload 1392 & 2253, Curb Weight 3558 & 3647.

1993 Model Line-up and weights for 115" WB:
D150 - GVWR 5500, Payload 1880, Curb Weight 3620.

1986 doesn't even show the VIN designation for a 150 yet they list them in the specification sections.
1989 doesn't cover the 100 yet it list them in the VIN and specification sections.
1993 is the only one that is clear.
I owned a 1985 D150 and it would seem pretty odd based on the service manual that the 150 was not built in 1986.
So, who knows your guess is as good as mine.
I guess for this thread, we could assume that the D100's were 5 on 4.5 and the D150's were 5 on 5.5 which ever years.
