Kingpin reamer
My Chadwick & Trefethen (kingpin reamer) Model "g" 0957 27/32nds-15/16ths, arrived today( thanks Robertod for the info. and kingpins). Plan is to do the king pins, tie rod ends, spring bushings and scarebird conversion all at once. Trying to decide which truck to do this on since both the '61 and '67 have new brakes all around. Oh! BTW, switched gears....the poly is now going in the '67. Decided to keep the '61 original.

Re: Kingpin reamer
I prefer honing to reaming. Much more precise and longer lasting fit.

Re: Kingpin reamer
In theory I think you are right but in practice I had a machine shop screw up one set of bushings and so I prefer to ream because then the screwup is mine.twostick wrote:I prefer honing to reaming. Much more precise and longer lasting fit.

Re: Kingpin reamer
I have not done mine yet. The king pins are TRW K452. Got them from Robertob....he bought several sets on a deal and offered them up to members....been awhile back. The reamer has instructions and seams pretty easy to use if you follow them. They stress not cutting too much at a time and not to reverse direction of the cut. I don't think it should take much to make the pins snug. The reamer has a pilot to keep both holes in line. I'm waiting on a set of new front springs to arrive, before I do mine.Jake66 wrote:Txas2step wrote:My Chadwick & Trefethen (kingpin reamer) Model "g" 0957 27/32nds-15/16ths, arrived today( thanks Robertod for the info. and kingpins). Re: Kingpin reamer
I am getting ready to do the kingpins and refresh pretty much all the other moving parts in the steering assembly on my D100...
does it make sense or is it even possible to leave the axle assembly attached to the truck and just remove the hub spindles to do this job ??
since i park my truck on the street, i usually only get a maximum of three or four days while the truck can remain undriveable..
seems like not removing the sway bar end links or springs will save some time and minimize some possible sticking points
I will also be using a TRW K452 ball bearing kit.. nice to find something made in USA
also was able to find a NOS american-made TRW drag link on ebay for $40 and
RockAuto still has McQuay-Norris american tie rod ends for about $5 each
hope this stuff will last another 80,000 miles or somewhere close

Re: Kingpin reamer
Yes. You can line ream the assemblies out of the truck and leave your axle in. I think I have an NOS (not anymore) Drag link in mine. I suggest Ball bearing king pin kit personally and certainly brass bushings.
