Guys, On the 1970 parts truck I am having trouble removing the spindle nut. There is somethign on top of the nut that will turn if about 1/4 of an inch then stops. Any suggestion?
I felt around the keyway and there is nothing but grease in it.

Re: Spindle Nut Removal
I believe you are looking at the upgraded spindle nut. Not positive how they hold together but clean the grease out of those holes and look into to see if their is an allen possibly to back out.

Yes, that retainer (the circular ring outboard of the big hex nut) should have a lock pin in one of those holes, likely a small Allen stud. Dodgeboykim is spot on!
IIRC, there is a keyed lock ring behind that, with oval holes in it the lock ring pin meshes into... That's why you are getting a little bit of turn.

Looks like there are 3 holes in that lock ring... I recommend concentrating on the one that is not 180* opposed to another hole.

Re: Spindle Nut Removal
Here are some pictures of what one of the nuts looked like after removal.
They did have set screws in the holes. They are flat heads and not allens. There are 3 set screws and two holes at 180 for I assume a wrench or socket. Under that is a washer with holes for the set screws and a tab for the keyway.
