I was going to do it because some others said too. The box is attached to that large 3/8" plate already. I picked up a 1/4" plate today to do it but I think I wil hook up the steering wheel and crank it to see if there is any flex.

Thanks!! I am on the fence if I should take this thing back out and do a solidworks model (3D CAD) and then have someone like David Wymore make some plates. We have a brand new coordinate measurement system at work and some smart interns. It would be as close as you're gonna get to bolt in PS then.

That box would be the way to go if I ever did a power steer upgrade again. With that style you can still have a somewhat original look to the truck with original column.

One step closer. This is the plate rough sketched in solid works. Next week after we get CMM training it will be final dimensioned and machine shop ready.

You've already done more than you need to and I appreciate it but curious, any thoughts on slotting the bolt holes where the plate mounts to the frame to account for slight variances for different people's frames? Not sure if this would be an issue but just thinking a slight oblong to the holes wouldn't hurt anything.

Do you mean slotted for rotaion? I can do that and leave the fourth drill your own frame hole round to lock it in.

Just oblong the mounting holes on the plate to account for possible variances in where the holes are drilled on someone's frame.

The frame holes should be accurate. Slotting that way will only give front/back and not any other direction. None of the afternmarket plates are slotted either. I clocked it to align with the column by eye so I am not as sure about that. If any one uses the template I will publish I strongly reccomend printing a 1:1 paper print and checking it. Worst case you get to use a die grinder.

Digdoug brings up a really good point.. That guy's always right! I keep thinking crossover forces and how I did my box. You have a rotating force, pushing and pulling the length of frame rail rather than side to side pushing and pulling frame rails apart.
After seeing your pictures, I think plating the frame would be nice but not a must. I really like the extra bolt too.

Anybody see any reason why this wouldn't work on the W trucks?

I'm far from an expert but if I remember correct aren't the W trucks a crossover style steering in front of the axle where as the 2wd D trucks are a push pull style steering with the box behind the axle?

I am still working on it. I just got stalled with free tickets to the reno air races, this weekend I am going to Tahoe and next week is a cub scout hike. I also ordered a new drag link and some other stuff I need from Autozone a week ago and still haven't got shipping info. They had 20% off on-line only so I had too. I hope to measure the plate on Thursday. The schedule moved from today.

Might be a bit premature here but when you get this up and running depending on driving impressions you may want to consider the procedure outlined in the article linked below. I'm going to assume you're utilizing a Saginaw P/S pump as it's the most common?

I will be using a Saginaw pump and plan to play with the procedure outlined to get the best of feel and assist.
