Which dual master? Also, where to get rubber lines
I have a 65 Fargo W300 PowerWagon, which still has a single master cylinder. I would like to upgrade to a dual master. 5 months ago, I rebuilt the front wheel cylinders with rebuild kits and honed them out, since I could not find new anywhere. I replaced the rears with new. After bleeding them, I drove the truck around about a week with a slightly soft pedal, but the wheel cylinders were holding up fine. I then went travelling for 2 months, and when I came back, the master was dry and there was no pedal.
Does anyone know where to buy the long rubber lines for a W300?
Also, does anyone know which dual master to buy which has the same bolt pattern, to do the conversion?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks. I'll give NAPA a try. Do you know which year they started the dual masters? Was it 68?

Could you post a pic of your 69 master cylinder? I'd like to see the bolt pattern against the firewall, thanks.

Re: Which dual master? Also, where to get rubber lines
My '67 came with a dual master. When I replaced all my brake lines I did not even try to find new rubber ones. I just did like done with almost all other brake lines I see and made several loops in the line. This does the same thing as the rubber line allowing some movement between the body and frame without ruining the lines.70DartMike wrote:Thanks. I'll give NAPA a try. I have a new mc I have not installed yet so it looks like about 3-1/2" space on the 2 mounting holes70DartMike wrote:Could you post a pic of your 69 master cylinder? I'd like to see the bolt pattern against the firewall, thanks.
Old mc is mounted to a power unit

Re: Which dual master? Also, where to get rubber lines
Great, thanks for the pictures.
What I did was, found a dual master cylinder on a 68 Dodge W100, and it was the same style you have above, but without the booster. Instead of a booster though, it had an adapter plate with the same bolt pattern as my old single master. I pulled the plate, as well as the proportioning valve. The pushrod lines up the same, and everything was a direct bolt on. New master cylinder is for a 77 Dodge W200, which they had on the shelf at the parts store. I'm now running a 5/16" line to the booster which is under the cab, and I'm running 1/4" line to the rears, as well as from the proportiong valve to the fronts.
Ignore the messy engine bay, but here is what the adapter plate looks like, if anyone needs it as reference.
And the prop valve from the 68 W100, which I was fortunate enough to get all the fittings out of.

Great thread and great info inside.! This is sooooooo on my list of need to get done upgrades.
Thanks to all the 'posters' & the photos were great (your engine bay's actually 'cleaner' than mine).
Cheers,
Cris

Re: Which dual master? Also, where to get rubber lines
No problem. Here, I'll post the rest of the pics, of the job completed. Not the prettiest, but it works.
I've got a 5/16" line running down to my power booster under the cab, and then 1/4" to my fronts from the distribution valve.
I've got 1/4" line running down to the dist. valve for my rears, and then 1/4" to the rears.
I've basically got power brakes on the front's, and manual on the rears, but it works fine.

that thing is a monster :D what did you do to it to make it so tall?
Re: Which dual master? Also, where to get rubber lines
+1 on it being a monster, killer stance.!Seff wrote:that thing is a monster :D what did you do to it to make it so tall?
Question, are those bendable brake lines.? Guess I've been living in a cave, never seen those before.
Quite slick.!
Thanks again for the extra photos. Came out suh-wheat.
Cheers,
Cris

Stock lift being a W300. Used to have a longer frame, but we cut the frame down and put on the short box. It has 40" bias ply military issue tires on 20" split rims.Seff wrote:that thing is a monster :D what did you do to it to make it so tall?

The lines are stainless, and you buy them straight. I used a manual pipe bender, such as..
To bend mine. Takes a bit of patience, but you'll get there in the end.

Re: Which dual master? Also, where to get rubber lines
Not sure, but both my W300's have it like that. Someone else referred to it as a 'hydrolic' brake booster (?). When the single master was on, the line from the master went into an MC on the booster, and came out of the MC to the distribution valve, and from there went to the brakes. When I put the dual master on, I could only run the booster to the fronts technically.Txas2step wrote:How do you have a power booster under the cab?

hmm, that sounds like a good idea :D if only i could find a cheap 300 to do it to...70DartMike wrote:Stock lift being a W300.
