Brake pedal return

Post by Mavis13 »

When I push the brake pedal it wont return unless I pull it back with my foot. Not sue even were to start with this besides replacing the master cylinder. Any idea what the issue is?

Some trucks apparently had a spring but others didn't. If not, some have mentioned the the bar which provides the pivot for the brake pedal becomes gummed up and needs cleaning.

I ran into the same problem on my 68 d100. I went under the dash on the bar that it rotates on and loosened the nut on the passenger side a little. Then I spray-lubed the hell out of it and worked it back and forth and it eventually started working right. Hope that helps for you

I've been dealing with the same problem too. I've greased and lubed the pedal shaft, but I believe the problem to be that the rubber in the master cylinder is getting hard, and the brake fluid needs changing. After 400 miles this weekend it seems to have cleaned up some-perhaps the booster valve needed some activity and high vacuum. I'll change the brake fluid in the coming week or so and see if that fixes it permanently.
