Lift + Big tires = Uncertainty

Post by 67383wagon »

I appreciate any help I am lifting a W200 with a SkyJacker 8" lift and a 3" body lift. I am going to put 46" Mickey Thompsons on it. Will this be enough lift? Anyone with a similar experience? Any input is helpful.

11 inches aint enough for 44's much less 46's unless you plan on hogging out the fenders. theres a pic around here somewhere of a guy who put 18" total on his w200 to clear 44's and its too close in my opinion. :Thumbsup 11" and 40's with a slightly hogged fender would be about perfect i would think. ill see if i can locate that pic.

this truck was built useing 2 frames stacked one on top of the other, and the same suspension/body lift you mentioned for a totall of 18" of lift. the tires are 44's, and you can see they dont clear well enough for any extreme off roading. good looking truck, just not that functional.

My truck has a 6" lift and a 3" body with 38.5's. IMHO I wouldn't go any higher than this. It's a handful on the road, and the ride is for REAL men.

the 8 and 3 with 40's would be right on with what i suggested earlier, should have used your truck as an example as well. i can speak from experience, running 40's takes some good suspension work to keep them under control at any speed. i agree with jimmy, if you plan to drive it much, stick to a smaller tire. :Thumbsup

Unless you're planning on doing some brake mods, I wouldn't plan on going over 35's or 36's- the old 12x2 drums have a hard time stopping anything bigger. I've got 35" BFG's under my truck, and it takes a while to slow down. Plus, corrective steering parts for the closed knuckle 44 are non existant, unles you're doing your own steering setup.
