Front brakes interchange.

Post by Guest »

Will any of the IFS brakes fit on our trucks? Have checked with every parts store and real brake shop in my area. The front drums are unobtainable. Don't care if the truck is disc or drum, doesn't get driven all that much. Just need to get rid of the rivet scored drums it has now. Too deep to be turned. When I change the shoes the adjusters don't back off enough to yank the drum off, and the retainer pins have to be cut. What a headache. And the pins are getting hard to find here too. And so are the hardware packs (springs and such) for both ends.
Thank you.

There are rumors about a source for new drums, and some people have been able to get them from NAPA and such. There were a few sources for front disk conversions using Dakota rotors and whatnot. Helitool used to make a kit... I'd call them up and see what the status is on their operation. http://www.uglytruckling.com It all depends on how much you want to spend. You can fab in a complete IFS system if you want to go all the way with it...
Thanks, Clint

i have a front disc setup from AAJ brakes. it looks like a nice setup that uses aspen rotors and GM calipers - IMHO it seems like it would be much easier to install than the Helitool kit and it is available with excellent support to boot!

here's a pic of the kit roughed in on my bench -
