Any one know the torque specs for a '70 D-100 drag link?

Post by Ginmalta »

I am going to change out the drag link on my '70 D-100 1/2 ton, 2WD. Got one off eBay for under $56, brand new, complete with grease boots. Just wondering if the castellated nuts need torquing. If so what's the torque on them?

I spotted a '68 D-100 camper spacial at a local wrecking yard and the rear leaf suspension looks to be the same, am I correct on this? There are 7 leafs on that truck and only 4 on mine. I am thinking that I would need to get all the U bolts and brackets off that truck for mine. Anything else I should grab? Would I have any problems in swapping everything out? Also are the brackets that secure the leafs to the frame the same? They also appear to be just like mine.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks!

Always.... :thinking

just replaced it on my '66. the FSM says 40-75. I set it for 60, then turned tighter to the nearest hole for the cotter pin.

Thanks guys, I knew I could count on this forum to help answer my question. I swapped it out today and it was a snap. I had more problems with the grease gun then the actual job itself!I too had to take a half a turn back to align the hole in the nut, on the back stud, which was no biggie as the torque wrench snapped at 60 Lbs. The front nut/hole was dead on so that was a breeze.

I guess I need to re post my question regarding the rear suspension questions. But getting the torque specs really helped me out!

Thanks again!

G

I'm glad yours was easy. I couldn't get the old one off!! I finally used my huge gear puller and cranked the sucker down. The drag link finally popped off. GRRR :banghead

Hey Jim,

This is a really old thread but I'm planning to replace the Drag Link on my truck in the morning.
If you happen to get this, can you tell me if the torque rate is the same on my '66 D200?

Thanks in advance,
Jimmy
