changing front axle on 70 D200

Post by Andrew »

I was thinking. would I be able to put a half ton front strait axle. I was thinking this so I could put front brakes on it. how hard would this be? would I have to change the leafs? or are there kits for the 8 lug breaks? I front of my truck wont be taking much if any weight, for a 3/4 ton anyway, maybe for a 1/2 it will be doing towing, which is why I want the disk breaks up front. I have looked at a bunch of kits but I cant find one for the 8 lug. would I have to change the axle or would the spindle still fit, but just have 5 instead of 8 lugs. I know a few places where I could get the axle for cheep, I just need some facts before I go drop the money for anything. thanks for the help...

Andrew, the axles should interchange , but you might need the U bolts from the 100 & it should bolt right up to your springs , just have to carry two spare tires .
