Leaf Spring question

Post by surfnuke9 »

As you can see, my W200 has a 9 leaf pack on the rear. It also has a 5 leaf pack on the front.

To say that this truck rides rough is a bit of an understatement.

What I have found so far tells me that these leaf packs are not what came on the truck based on the dataplate.

dataplate says the front is a 1550 capacity while the rear is a 1750 capacity. Am I just ignorant of what that means on the dataplate?

either way, is there a downside to taking out a leaf or two from each? I understand my overall load capacity will go down, but I dont think I will be putting a ton in the bed any time soon.

The fronts are probably correct, the rears aren't.

My 70 Crew has 5 leafs in the front and 1550 on the tag.
The rear is 8 leafs and 2600 on the tag.

The 71 W200 had 1550 lb, 5 leaf springs up front,
with an optional 1300 lb 5 leaf for /6 and 318.

The rears were 1750 lb, 6 leaf or 2600 lb, 8 leaf.
The book shows these sharing the same #1 & #2 leaves.

But not sure what you have, there are no 9 leaf springs
shown in the book for 69-71.

It is probably something that was put together specifically for the needs it had in its early life as a fire house pumping truck.

Lots of pretty heavy equipment and tanks in the bed. Who knows.

Thanks for the info.

I think I my just take out the bottom 3 springs and see what happens.
