66.5 d100. It catches, sound like a scrape. It's not in the box, which was rebuilt. Any ideas?

check the barings in the colum....... known to go baD

Also double check the end, where the shaft exits the column.
There is some room to adjust the placement of the column
on the floor. If the column isn't lined up right, the shaft can
touch the shift tube and make a noise when turned.
I ran into this when lining up my column with the new
power steering.

See if you can tell is the noise is at the top, just under the
steering wheel, or low, near the floor. Top will be bearings
and bottom will be alignment.

One other thought. Has the turn signal switch been changed out?
The factory switches had rollers on the end of the horn contact.
Some of the repops do not. I had this happen with my Fury.
The repop switch didn't have a roller on the horn contact.
It made a scratchy sound when the wheel was turned. The sound
went away after I slathered the contact and the ring on the back
of the steering wheel up with dielectric grease.

Thanks. The sound seemed like it came from the top. I spray WD40 up the column and it still catches but doesn't make the same sound. How do you change the bearing and where would I get one? Bob

I hope I'm Wrong, my '66 was doing what sound the same, front cab mounts were rusted through and cab had settled putting a lot of pressure on the steering column.

I've welded my cab mounts, but I may not have gotten the cab jacked up enough. What do you think if I loosen the column bolts and pull up? Would that help? Could it screw anything up?

That might work. There might be enough clearence. If not, you could shim the front of your cab with some fender washers between the frame mount an the rubber isolator.

well I did all of the suggestions, not the bearing in the column, deff in the box , prolly a corroded worm gear seems to be when wheels are straight there is a tight spot turn either way and it turns freely.
