rear brake line with splitter

Post by HEtkind »

While finishing up my rear spring bushing replacement on the Town Wagon (and now planning the same job on the 68 utiline), I found a large bubble in the outer rubber sheath of the rear rubber brake line, the one that goes from the frame to the splitter on the rear axle. So, I dug out some old paperwork and I had put that particular line on in May 2000, part brk sp4520. I called the local carquest, ordered a new line, replaced it yesterday, and dragged the old line back to them to send out for "engineering evaluation" since I felt the brake line should not have failed in such fashion and in such few miles as I put on this truck.

Once the brake line was replaced, the fluid bleed, and a few turns on the MC pushrod, I now have a firn, high brake and the truck stops nice. I suspect the line was expanding like a balloon without actually making the rear brakes work!
