Didn't mean to hijack the thread, just asked a question after nutz's explanation about what to measure to help assess bumpsteer. And of course it went from there. I rarely reread an entire thread, usually just going to new postings on a topic. I hadn't read the first part of the thread in awhile so I wasn't connecting the dropped tie rod ends with anything. Hence my confusion. Anyway, hopefully all good now.

I believe it was the tie rod ends. Both sides were shot. I was able to take it for a short drive and it felt tighter, not as loose going over bumps, but won't know 100% until the spring when the roads are clear of salt. I also have to get an alignment and that will also be in the spring.

Yeesh. Here’s a blast from the past.

I'm not familiar with the flipped axle, but my 68 had a bump steer problem that turned out to be bad king pin bushings.
When it shifted to 2nd hooked up it would jump toward the ditch.
Jack the wheel off the ground and check it for slack
