brake T ?

Post by zdatdodge »

Can anyone tell me what the T part is where the brake line hose connecting the hardline from the front to the hardlines on the rearaxle is? I had my truck frame lifted onto two tires at a 45 angle for some frame work and brake fluid started leaking at this spot on the top where it has some kind of round cap. Seems odd that this would leak, isnt the system suppose to be completely sealed? I imagine it like some kind of check valve but have never seen anything like it.

That's not only the T for the rear brake lines it is also the rear axle vent. That's what the round cap is. It sits on top of a through bolt that is the actual vent. If what you see is really brake fluid and not rear axle lubricant I would say you have a damaged rubber brake line.

Now that you mention it, it did smell more like axle fluid.
I didnt get to clean it up, just let it drip.
Thanks for the reply, that makes perfect sense now. It was a little strange to have "brake fluid" leaking out.
