Every so often someone asks "Where do I get power steering for my sweptline truck?" I thought it would be good to get all the options together on one thread. Here are some of them: stock Bendix Power assist,Garrison power assist,79-84 Toyota 4x4 conversion,80-93 F ord pickup conversion,Chev y and Dodge SAGINAW Power steering.
Im going to start by showing how I did the conversion using the f ord box. This is just one of many ways to do a P.S. conversion.
I would like others to show what thier power steering looks like too!

Trey, Not exactly. Prototech uses a machined plate to bolt the box to the frame. I think Steve at Prototech did some machine work on the box to bolt it to the plate. I did it in 2000, wish I'd made more pics.
To say that I did it just like Prototech did it is a HUGE insult to Steve. He made a product with EXELLENT fit and finish.I know this, because I bought one of the last conversions he built. Steve machined 1/2" off the sector housing ,to bring the box in line with the column. He also drilled and tapped that area to accept a high quality adapter plate that fits ALL 100-200 sweptlines.He also built two different arms,@6"+ one for the W and @ 7"+ arm for D's.I didn't do any of that! I just bent,filed,and welded up some stuff that works for me!

I used the Toyota box for mine. Made this bracket for it to bolt to.
Then bolted it to the frame. Mine actualy fits through the frame.
The box and the steering shaft line up well.
Well on my way to becoming that eccentric old man in every town.(crazy as a s#@thouse rat) With a yard full of desireable old vehicles that tells you, Sorry they're not for sale..... Someday I'm going to fix them.
I haven't decided exactly which way I'll go with the W200. I like the Toyota box, but after looking at a couple of extra Scout 2 boxes I have laying around.... I'm thinking about going to a Dana 60 up front anyway, so the Scout box and the crossover high-steer is the direction I'm leaning right now.
Unless I come across a Cummins powered W that I can do a frame swap on. BWUHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Here are some of the pumps I am running on my trucks.
This is a saginaw pump on a 383 with 2 pulleys at crank
This is also a saginaw pump,but on a 318.also a 2 pulley at crank
This last photo is a TRW pump on a 383 with a 3 pulley crank. This is the pump that you will find on the stock power steering trucks,at least the pre 69 ones.
All of these pumps mount high on the water pump to clear the lower rad. hose.

Great pictures!! Like he said, if anyone has the power assist set up, please!~send them in? *I like the pictures of the 66 steering. How does the power assist make the truck handle? I'm sure it's better than manual steering.

i bought that power steering set up, and am going to put it into my truck. I have been looking in jum yards for this set up for quite some time. the cost for searching time vs all parts right there (granted, a little steep in price)was a good trade off for me in the end. I"m going to strip this thing down and put in new seals and make some new lines locally. I'll post some pics when finished. also putting in a brake powder booster that I am restoring.
does anyone have an extra mounting bracket for one of those federal pumps? ive been having helluva time finding one. I keep buying these diferent ones on ebay and then find out its the wrong one. I didnt know that pump was a federal. Great post!

What calipers are those?? Your the first one I've seen with disc brakes that didn't spend weeks and weeks trying to fit a chitty or ford part to it
thanks.. thats exactly what I was looking for.. I want to do the ford conversion.. too bad about pro-tech services.. I was going to get their kit.. but someone obviously screwed them about something they did, and forced them to stop offering their kit.. damn shame.. but this is what I wanted to see.. I know they made a bracket and had a modified ford box they offered, but I guess I will do the same.. should be easy enough to modify the stuff.. thanks, I waqs looking for tech articles on this site about this stuff, but its not finished I guess.. thanks guy's.. and you are right, if other people have info and pic's about this stuff, send it in.. great bunch of people here.. although sometimes I think anyone who drives one of these tanks must have a screw loose.. god, do I need power steering fast.. its enough of a problem driving it with a locker and manual transmission and the rough ride....
