Starting with the Scarebird

FIgured it was about time to get started on the 61, have plenty to do, starting from the bottom, got the frame nice and cleaned up, and just got my pirts in from Scarebird. Hubs, and brackets came in yesterday.
Friday is my birthday, and I plan on spending the better part of the day in the garage!

Before I get to far ahead, I'll be taking plenty of pictures, and maybe starting a build thread, depending on how far I can get!

I just installed a scarebird disc brake set up on my 71 D100. I have a few issues with the set up. The first one is when I installed the hub seal it looks like the inner bearing sets to close to the seal. I am not sure if it is going to keep the grease in? Time will tell. The second one is when I went to install the checrolet disc brake calipes it was a son-of-a-*&^%$ to get them lined up and bolted down, after i finally got them on the front rotor seems to spin fine and looks ok. I forgot about one other issue, the bottom holes on the disc brake brkt (that came from scarebird) were to small, so I had to drill them out. I haven't done any of the brake line work and I havent changed out the master cylinder. I didn't mean to hyjack this post and I will put up some pictures tomorrow. Thanks

I finally got to do some fun stuff!!!! Thanks to Uncle Sam and these stupid furlough days, now I've got plenty of time, just no money!

Three day weekend was put to good use, but it's slow going.....

A bit intimidating to start, for me anyways!

A day and a half later, I got the drum off, shoes were rusted on!

Finally got it all off, then saw how dirty it was!! Ouch!!

Kinda hard to see, but the pile of dirt is much bigger in this picture!

I'm not going for the complete job right now, just taking steps to get her on the road, eventually!

But I had a GREAT weekend working with the truck.

Just test fitted all the new parts, it's all apart now, waiting on some new parts, so I don't have to redo anything real soon.

Looks pretty good so far, but plenty more to go!

Got some more done last week while I was off work!

Not as much as I'd a liked, but......

Bracket on, Hub mounted.

Everything else mounted, need new caps now!

Oh yes...

I have the stock wheels on the truck as well, so...

Had to shave the corners a little.

Still need to get a new master cylinder, and new lines for the front.

Slowly!!!!

Installed my brakes in about 5 hours total. (After cleaning the parts and painting.) Had a few dollars shy of 400.00 in Delco parts plus Scarebird. Scarebird had stated that the lower holes might have to be drilled but mine did not 1969 model D100. Every thing bolted right up. Am concerned that the seal was out a little as others have stated, we will see. Added 17 x 8 Torq Thrust on all fours with Michelin tires. Nice look. Springs from Detroit next.

I think I may have to do this to my 64, my brakes are horrible!

Finally got out to the garage this morning, working on the drivers side kit. Drum came right off, shoes popped off without a problem, and everything was going to good!!

Can not for the life of me get the two big bolts out of the bottom, One is attached to the steering are, the other is attached to the linkage for the other side. I did almost everything I could think of, and they are NOT coming out.

I'll try and give it another go tomorrow or next weekend, my back told me it was time to take a break!

Got the cotter pins and the nuts off the back, but the bolts are not moving, kind off hard to figure out?


It was nice to get back out there, been to long, life keeps getting in the way.

After these ScareBirds get on, it's time to drop in the rebuilt Poly, can hardly wait.

Trying to get to the point that I can drive her, maybe just down the road, but need to get mobile, then little by little, I'll get her looking good!!!
