Tremble in front end when driving
Tremble in front end when driving
Recently I got my D300 back on the road and when I am driving along at 50-60 mph, I've got a trembling pulsation that I can feel through the steering wheel. To my knowledge none of the components have been replaced on the truck in the steering. I had my dad turn the wheel left and right and I got under the truck and looked for loose motion in the joints but didn't really see anything noticeable. We changed the wheels and tires on it last weekend and the condition isn't as bad now but it is still there at the same speeds. Any ideas?

Shocks may be the problem.
Re: Tremble in front end when driving
It has radial tires and rancho shocks.

In that case, you might look for:1969D300 wrote: To my knowledge none of the components have been replaced on the truck in the steering.
- worn out steering box
- worn tie rod ends
- worn out king pins
- worn out drag link
- worn out leaf spring bushings
One, or a combination of the above could lead
to your front steering/suspension vibrations....

Re: Tremble in front end when driving
If the king pins are worn out, will the wheels have excessive motion in them if I jack up the truck and push on the top the tire and pull on the bottom of the tire, and vice versa? Are any of these parts listed above readily available for 1 ton trucks? I would prefer to put moog parts on it if they are available.Hobcobble wrote:

You'll definitely see if the king pins or pin bushings or shot. And you may just need to reset the preload on your front wheel bearings. After cleaning and repacking them of course. One of the trucks here did that to me, thought the front end was falling out, just needed a bearing service/setting.

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't think about the wheel bearings. I'll check that out this week.WD wrote:You'll definitely see if the king pins or pin bushings or shot. Re: Tremble in front end when driving
Well, I jacked the front end of the truck up today and pushed and pulled on the top and bottom of the tire and had my dad watch the spindle/king pin area. All of the slop was there. What moog kit do I need to order to replace them on my truck? I've found two different #s. An 8454N and an 8454B. I see different components in each kit, but I've never replaced king pings before. So I don't know what the different components are that I'm looking at other than the pins themselves.
Here is the 8454B http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOOG-KING-PIN-K ... b7&vxp=mtr
Here is the 8454N http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOOG-8454N-King ... 6d&vxp=mtr

Re: Tremble in front end when driving
Not sure which set but I would measure the old pins dia and length . You will need a correct reamer to ream the bushings and a press to remove and install, it maybe be easier to have a shop press and ream them if you do not have the correct tools. There usually is a bolt that holds the pin secure sometimes you can get lucky and bolt is loose. Last truck I did was a 48 dodge so my advice my be a little dated but principles are the same.

Probably too late to matter... N is Nylon B is Metal bushings. Always buy a kit with metal bushings if you have a choice.
