Leaf springs, 1/2 to 3/4 ton swap

Postby T748 » Thu Jul 29, 2010 8:07 pm

A few questions about swapping leaf springs....
I've got a 63 D100 with a 440 weighing down the front end. I'm looking to grab the front springs from a 67 D200.
#1 Will they fit?
#2 Is there much of a difference between the 1/2 and 3/4 ton spring rates?
I'm also interested in the rear springs. Same questions as above.

The wrecking yard is an 1 1/2 hours away, so I can't measure things ahead of time. Thanks -Tom.

I have a 65 D 200 and i don't believe there is much difference. the springs themselves are nothing more than overload springs. At least as far as i can tell.

I'm pretty sure the spring eye bushing bolts are a
larger diameter on the 3/4 ton springs. I'm unsure
as to the I.D. of the spring eye itself.

Front springs are a straight swap.Rear springs use bigger bolts...need to drill out hole in mount.

Doug,
I am still considering making a W200 from a D100. For the
front springs, I only need to swap them over then?

Is it possible the V8 are heavier than a six ? Maybe that's what your truck had before the 440. :thinking
Reason I say this, is my 64 ,with a poly has 5 leaves up front and coil over shocks, were as my other 64 has a slant six and has 4 leaf spring
pack.
The coil over shocks might be for a camper, as the rear springs are six leaves with over load springs on top. Both trucks are D100.
