Bellhousing question

Post by cptn60 »

Getting ready to pull the engine and trans out of my 67 p200(Bread truck). I noticed there are 2 bolt patterns on this rascal :thinking . Could one pattern be a v8? Hydraulic clutch, 3spd 6cyl engine. Found a casting #2235714-1. Sorry camera is dead, so no pics. Thanks, George

Hi George :welcome ,
If it is the same as the Sweptline bell, it will work
with the Slant 6 or small block V-8 [A318, LA318, 273,
340, 360, etc..]

John
Is that true of the 69-71 trucks too. Will a SB bolt to /6 bell or is it just the early hydro bell trucks?
thanks

Bell housings

Hi there. I am having a small problem with finding a motor to relace my old and tired 1960, 361. It is in a D500 flatbed truck and has the standard top loader 4 speed tranny. Does anybody have any ideas which newer engines will bolt up to the old bellhousing? Any ideas will be really cool....Dennis :banghead

361 is a B engine. I think that any of the B or RB engines (383,400,413,426,440) would be a direct replacement. Anyone confirm?

the big blocks above will bolt to the bell but not the crank because of the changes in 62 (all the holes
may not line up on the bell, but most should).
the 61 and earlier cranks are a bit longer and
this affects the imput shaft on the trans as
well as the crank bolt flang.
All lite truck engines and cars will have a 6 bolt crank
after 61, only the heavy truck engines and Hemis
had the 8 bolt crank after 61.

Im not sure if there is a kit for this, you
might ask over at fowardlook.com

Tunkmountianman,
Like Jeff said, all B or RB engines will bolt up to the bell, but your 361 has a 8 bolt crank and 13" clutch. You can only use a 361 or 413 truck engine with it(or a early car engine with 8bolt crank.
If you use a 6 bolt crank engine the biggest clutch setup that will work is the 12".Use disk #13363 B&B(Borg&Beck). Use cover#13821 B&B.Use flywheel from a 383 in a 67-68 D100-300,W100,200(THESE flywheels are kind of rare).
I saw a 361 for sale on ebay,

You can only use the \6 fly if you correct the
one off set hole, weld it up and redrill to match
the v8 crank bolt patten, otherwise it may be out
of balace if you just use 5 bolts to hold the fly to
the crank.

everything else will swap 62 to 68.
