oil pan problems

Post by motomatt383 »

i touched on this the other day, went to jam the pan on my magnum motor tonite & found a huge gap in the rear. the space between the rear main cap & the pan are about 1/2". i'm going to cut the back out of my stock pan & graft the piece out the magnum pan, unless someone has a better idea. so talk to me, i'm gonna cut it tomorrow otherwise.

Looks like the problem a person would have trying to put a 360 pan on a 318 block. Been there, done that, know better now. Are you trying to put on a pan from an externally balanced engine? Looks like it. Jim

I have heard that some of the magnum parts won't cross over. This may be one. Jim

Well I belive that I said that they should swap, WRONG.
so I'm eating my words.

The 360 and 318 mag pans will swap with any
LA 360 with the right gasket,
but not with the old LA318 or A318. :banghead

that trans mount is a story in itself. i went everywhere in search of it. then i researched the part # on our site, went to the oldest dodge dealer near me. and they had one on the shelf, dated 09/12/1982.

Mopar performance usually has pan sets with pickup and dipstick pretty resonable.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely with a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, beer in one hand, cigar in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming,"what a ride&quot

My friend ran a regular LA318 car pan on his 318 magnum for 4 years in a Valiant. The engine is now in his son's Volare. I never asked him what year the car pan was from, but I don't think it should matter.
