Respect for the Poly

Post by MountainMoparRobin »

forgot to mention on the drive out to Mopars @ Thunder Mountain, followed Kmnan1226 in his Poly, to my surprise with the 3:91 gears, he was doing 80 mph, holding it well, and of coarse no one passed us :Thumbsup So those Poly's do run :usa

They do run well, don't they. I moved my sons 66 D200 with a poly from behind the house to the yard at work last weekend. It started right up and ran pretty good even though it had sat for about a month. Only problem was the aftermarket holley POS carb was running too rich as usual. We swapped a carter BBD on there yesterday and it really runs good now. Caleb can hardly wait until he gets his license and can drive it now.

man robin, i thought you were listening to me when i posted. guess i was wrong. thier aint nothin wrong with a poly. my 66 with 3.91 gears ran 85 for 3 hours on one of my trips. 3800rpm for 3 hours!!! never got hot, never missed a beat, and even ran better when i stopped for gas then it did before i tromped on it. and you might have a 440 in your ride, but id tye my old 66 and its poly bumper to bumper and make you work for it. LOLOLOL!!!!!

its not the biggest one, but the next size down. 11" i think, but dont quote me, its been a while. but it is 10 spline. if 12 is the big one, then its an 11, if 11 is the big one then its a 10. i dont remember the size, just being mad the big one wouldnt fit. LOLOL!!! you get rid of that damed 2.76 gear, the clutch would like you a lot more. :Thumbsup

Yeah, it even suprised me. I usually cruise about 65. I don't have a tach and it sounds like it is revving high so I just cruise. I really enjoyed that day. Good weather and really had fun in my truck.

kman, FYI 3.91 gears, with 31" tires puts you at 3200rpm at 75mph. add or subtract for tire size. :Thumbsup the poly will run at 3000rpm all day without issue if its tuned right. i have prooven it on 2 so far. nm to houston, only stopping for gas, 3000-3400rpm the whoole way, 14hours worth. except last year, when i went via austin, then it was 18.5hours with the only breaks being for gas. :Thumbsup funny thing is, the damn things always run better when i get there then when i left. best thing for a poly is a good jaunt down the freeway here and there to clear the lungs a bit.
