I bought this one... P4452759
It's the resto Roadrunner/383hp cam, but it's still in the box until I rebuild the engine. :2cents

268H for the mellow, yet lopy idle and good all around driveability. just a shade better then a 383 magnum would have.
280H rumpy idle, needs a slight stall, but not as big as they reccomend. this is what i had in my charger, loped like a biotch, sounded great thru 3" exhaust and hedders, and really pepped up the 383. but its more a hot rod cam, not a truck cam.

click the links and look around. id go with the 268 for the better low end torque :Thumbsup the 280 has a higher rpm range and torque curve.

Hola John

No matter who's hot article that you read in whatever language, they all say to get you exhaust ready first.

Have the local non chain muffler shop measure the inside diam of the exh manifolds and use that inside diam to the rear bumper. When it comes to the muffler, you know to use ~ inside diam on both ends. The longer the high flow muffler is, the better the truck will be liked by others. Have the shop install a cross over pipe about where the flywheel is.

Do this while you figure who's telling you to build a NASCAR truck or a street truck.

Jon

It has been a week since you asked for some guidence on your 1968 383 cubed truck.

What have you come up with ??? :thinking

As I was re-reading your post I came up with another question. What does a " noticiable idle " requirement have to do with a vehicle that is going to be used on the streets and as a towing vehicle ???

Thoughts ... the average engine speed on the free-way is only about 2500 rpm's. :study

cam

the 280 duration that Trey mentioned will be good :Thumbsup if ya want to be able to hear lope, you'll need lift of more than 265, the big block 383 has always loved high duration with less lope example one cam is 484 lift and 284 duration second cam is 480 lift and 290 duration, in the past when building the 383 it gave better performance with the cam 2 less lift and more duration/ but their isn't much of a way to go wrong its a MOPAR :Thumbsup

In my 383 I used Summit's 488"-288 degree cam, I bought this one to break in my motor after rebuild, the motor was built to run MP 509"-292 degree. The Summit cam has a good lope at idle and is a pretty good cam for $80. Never put in the MP cam.
