pistons and compression ratio

Post by 1966D100 »

Ok, i'm going to be starting to tear down my Poly for an eventful (and possibly expencive, depending how i do it) rebuild. Thanks to all the info, i know (and checked) that the truck (1/2 ton) has a standard compression ratio of 8 to 1. I'm looking to hit the 9.5:1 to even 10:1....can this be reached without spending an arm and leg for custom pistons?

I was wondering if any of the LA or Magnum pistons would work (i know valve reliefes will be different, but i've heard of some people grinding the tops of the pistons to match up the valve releifs)

I also heard that Mopar Muscle did a build up of the polysphere motor that netted some nice figures, does anyone have the online article link to it (if they even put it online) or does anyone have the article where they listed all the LA parts that they put (or could be put) into the Polyspheres?

LA 318/340 parts that will fit a Poly (1962 up)
Crank
Crank bearings
Cam bearings
Rod bearings
Valve springs
Oil pump (HP LA pump is the stock poly pump)
Oil pump drive shaft
Dampener (fluid type included)
Timing Chain (Muldon Gear Drive also)
Water pump (inlet diffearnce after 68, changed sides)
Most timing covers
Rods (but there are differances in the rist pins)
Rings
Distributor

The stock car poly pistons will give 9 to 1, head or block can be decked to raise compression.
Have you tried to contact Gary? he is the one that did that build in MM.
