Hello I am converting my 69 dodge truck from an automatic transmission to a new process 435 manual. My queation is why is my pilot bushing too big for the crankshaft? The part number is the same everywhere i go but some how it is about 40 thousanddths of an inch too big. The motor is a 69 dodge 318 and the tranny is from an 81 pickup with the same motor ,thanks for your help ppl.

PILOT BUSHING 69 DODGE 318 NP 435
dirty dodges best be out yer garages!!!
sounds like you have a engine that was built for an automatic trans
They didn't drill the crank for the auto so the hole is smaller.
the option is to get a bushing that fits in the back of the crank like the hub on a tork coverter.
bad part is that you will have to cut the end of the pilot shaft on the trans off by about 1" or drill out the crank some

I didn't know there were 2 different cranks for each eng. I learn something every time I log on. It does seem like a lot of fuss though. Goldie

Im really not too keen on drilling the crank for the fact that I might screw it up. Am I wrong to think i could machine down the bigger bushing and use it instead of changing the crank>? oh yeah i for got to ask how far in the crankshaft should the pilot bushing be? because the hole has two different inside diameters it seems to taper down further in the hole. Im getting further in the hole the more i pursue this tranny swap lol oh well.Your advice is really appreciated everyone ,thanks.

any one have the part number for the pilot bushing that sets in the back of the crank where the hub to a tork converter sets?
with that you cut the end of the trans input shaft off (about 1")
