Auto to manual swap question

Post by moparspanky »

Howdy gents:

I am currently doing a conversion from a D200 crew to a W200 crew. Additionally I'm converting from auto to manual. I've got a NP435 and crossmember from a '73 W200. I've pulled the engine and 727 and auto cross member. I see the holes for the transfer case cross member (which I have along with a NP 205) so that's a no-brainer. I don't see where the 435 cross member mounts. Any help here would be great.

thanks,

If it is a 68 and earlier truck that is because it used bell housing mounts and the trans hung free. The crossmember that bell would mount to was cut out for the auto installation and if you have a later bell your using it would not mount to the crossmember anyway since they stopped using that system after 68.
If you have a rear hung manule trans then you will need to make a crossmember to mount it up. A piece of 2" sqaure tube will work for this, or drill some holes in the frame for the member you have to mount it up, if that will work; there are differances in the 300 from 200 frame.

Clarification

Post by moparspanky »

Sorry. the rig I'm converting is a '69. The rig I took the manual trans and cross member out of was a '73. The manual trans and cross member mount in front of the trans, right near the bell housing.

on a 69 to 71 the cross member for the trans is in the same place--auto or 4spd
68 back is the bell housing mount

Yea, I got that the cross member on the '69 goes behind the tranny. Problem is, my auto cross member has 3 holes widly spaced on each side, and my manual cross member has 2 holes tightly spaced on each side. Also, the auto cross member is just a straight C-beam, whereas the manual cross member dips down and there is a little bushing on the tranny which mounts into the dip. I can try to line everything up and drill (which I'll end up doing) but I thought all the necessary holes were there on all frames? Maybe I was confused.

Not all the frames are going to be the same since your dealing with equipment out of a 300 and installing it in a 200, then there is the early to late applications too.....
In a 300 and larger trucks the engines often have a differant mount system then the 200 down trucks. This has to do with how everthing sets in the frame.
