Broken engine and A727 mount

Post by MarsMonster »

Help,

all of my engine mounts are broken. I would like to know what the best method would be for me to resolve this. I have new mounts on the way. Should I use a floor jack, or will I need a lift? Also what is the best way to get the twist out of the engine alignment so that I have a decent shot at installing new mounts?

Check out the photos at http://groups.msn.com/DodgeSweptline/br ... snw?Page=1

Or look at them inline, I hope that they came through.

:censored !!!, how the heck did you do that???

I would pull the drive line, and get the engine puller
out to line her all up again.
Chain that pup down on the tork side to help to keep it
from doing it agian......

Mars, now that I've seen it the floor jack and 2x4 aint gonna work on this one. I agree with Jeff, get the cherry picker after this one.

Yep.... I'd use a picker or hoist too with a floor
jack for the tranny. You may want to pull your
tranny lines off too if you're tipping the engine/
tranny back & forth and side to side.

Mars,]

I had that same problem after I installed a fresh engine in my old 69 with new motor mounts, but did not replace the tranny mount. Guess what broke first? It cost me a raditor core and fan as well.

I agree with Jeffc, pull the engine and tranny, fresh mounts and alignment, then chain it down.

Scott, this is a subliminal message for you, as I never chained that engine, and those motor mounts were new in 2000. Jim

Hello everyone, thank you for helping me out with this one.

I am moving forward on this. I just received my new engine and transmission mounts today. I noticed that there is a valley on one side of the engine mount that has iron on the outside of it. There is also iron on the top and bottom of the engine mount. But the engine mount only has iron on one side.

In the pictures above you will notice that this valley that I am refering to faces forward on both driverside and passenger side.

My question is this: Which way should the engine mount valley face when it is installed. Toward the grill or toward the firewall? Or should one valley face toward the front of the truck and the other face toward the rear?

My second question is this: What is the purpose of this valley, is it for torque, or simply to strengthen the engine mount more.

Thank you,

I will keep you posted.

Problem solved, the mounts have been replaced and the engine is now sitting nice and level.

Thanks a ton,

Mars.
