The tranny cross member on my 65(granny 4spd)mounts to the bell housing. There is one just behind the drum emergency brake as well. Is that one for an automatic? It seems to be in close proximity to where the tailshaft of a 727 would end up.Just curious is all. I may just make one. Thanks.

Shaun,
Is this crossmember the one with an offset to it?
The 727 crossmember is a SEPARATE piece that wouldn't
come on your truck frame if your truck is an original
manual tranny model. You'd have to cut out a part of
the bellhousing crossmember to allow the 727 to fit
in. There are angle iron "spanners" that bridge the
piece that is cut out...... meaning, they bolt to
each remaining chunk of bellhousing crossmember and
run under the 727. You would then have to locate,
or fabricate, a crossmember to mount under the 727.
Then, there's the task of coming up with the proper
emergency brake set up [if your 727 doesn't have the
integral e-brake drum on it... that is...], installing
a shifter, etc., etc..

Well,it is awful close to the other member, just without mounts. I knew I'd have to cut a little off the existing bellhousing member, but I was hoping for an easier route, than fabbing a new tranny cross member-but at least I don't have to pay-just do it. :thinking I don't know which one's better.
I have a 742 Sure Grip complete, that has the e-brake holes in the backing plates.I'm going to use the stock lever and run a later model setup.
I have an Indy Hurst shifter that I'll mount to the floor and then fab(machine) some linkage for it. Piece of cake.Time is the only issue. Oh and cops. Shaun
a shifter, etc., etc..

Shaun,
Look at your truck frame rails between the bell
crossmember and that offset crossmember.... are
there 4 holes per rail in a square/rectangular
pattern?....

I have an auto tranny crossmember from a '68 D100
that utilizes these holes for mounting. Maybe someone
parting a truck out can sell you one.
John

PS.... That offset crossmember is sway-backed to
allow the driveshaft to pass over it :Thumbsup
