FI 440 question(s)

Post by OregonDodgeboy »

I'm kinda out of the loop on the newest stuff out there, but I was wondering what the aftermarket has for EFI for the big blocks. I'm getting anxious to get my W200 going, and with the price of fuel these days, I need all the help I can get.

I've been pondering a swap to a Diesel, but that may not be the wisest direction to go. My thoughts are, a well built 440 with EFI could get me about 15mpg on the average. (My truck has 4:10's and will be running 35's.) I'd like to go with port injection, but I don't want to spend billions on it either. There is a TBI conversion available pretty reasonably over at Affordable Fuel Injection, but it uses GM parts. And I really don't want to disgrace my Dodge with such :censored parts on it.

I might get 20 with a Diesel, but I'd have to gear it up and make some other changes as well. And if Diesel stays higher than gas, it might not pay off for a long long time to switch. :thinking

So,..... what's your thoughts/opinions on this?

Note: I've always got a dozen theroies/plans rattling around in my head at any one time. If I were to hit a big lottery, I'd be dangerous!

EGADS! Those are pricey!

This is more what I am talking about, price wise: http://www.affordable-fuel-injection.co ... system.htm

I just wish there was something like this that did not use a GM TBI. :pale

http://www.mass-floefi.com//index.html

This uses the Mass Flow set up that was used on the Mustangs for years. It's a lot more user friendly then the Edelbrock Speed Density setup. But it's pricey.

If your still considering doing the diesel swap check this out...

http://freedomfuelamerica.com/

You can make your own for about 80 cents a gallon if you can find a supplier for the oil.

I'm not sure how useful this last one will be but you might be able to adapt it to a 440. To compensate for the bigger cubic inches maybe you could up the injector size????

Hope this helped you out some.

Well if you are looking that route then the throttle body type from Holley may work better for you.
