yet another timing question
yet another timing question
i have a 69 with a 318 that has a rough idle i have replaced spark plugs and wires i have a rebilt carb and i have a new set of points and condenser. i have it set at ten degrees advanced.im pretty sure that the timing chain needs replaced. i unhooked the advance vacume tube from the carb and checked the timing and it was pretty close to the same i raised the rpms and the timing advanced alot. is this normal does anyone have ony ideas.

timing
also when you took off the vacuam line did you hear the rpms go down???
if so then the vac advance is working, when you increase the rpms, then yes the weights in the distributor should advance the timing, maximum should be around 30-34 degrees, since you set the timing at 10 btdc it tells me you have an automatic, the range with the best performance should be from 10-14 BTDC
