Its a Tired 318

Post by Rodger »

Hola

I've got this 1970 W100 SWB with a tired 318. My idea is to re-power this beast with the 360 valved heads, a stronger RV/ pulling type of cam and that ole Offy Dual Port intake with maybe that dusting away Elderbrock 1406 with the new style magnum exhaust manifolds. Or

Look for a '72-73 360 and clone it as if it was a E58 motor using the exh manifold from above.

techinal thoughts only please...

I like 318's, and dual ports. :Thumbsup

Put 1.88/1.60 valves, in your 675 heads, or get a set of 302 heads, and it will run great! Porting/port matching it will make it run better! And, a cam around 260 adv duration will knock your socks off! :Thumbsup
A 360 manifold will work fine, and is easy to find, also, when using your edelbrock on a dual port manifold? You need to richen up the main jets a bit, use a skinnier needle, and a stiffer spring, or you will have a lean miss around 1/4 throttle. :Thumbsup A four hole 1" spacer helps torque too. :Thumbsup

How about adding the "4.00" crank and stroking it out to the 392 ci??? :Thumbsup and then drive it up here for the Spring Fling??? can you make a meeting in the Denver Metro area for planning Spring Fling?

more power

Don't do it. Get a big block. I speak from experience. If you want power, you won't be completely satisfied with a stock stroke 318. And why spend all the money for the stroker crank,balancing.... when you get a longer stroke and bigger bore from a B/RB engine already?
There's no replacement for displacement. :clap

Hola

I am starting with the exhaust system. This week the 1970 exh manifolds are coming off. The replacement manifolds are the MoPar magnum manifolds from a 1992 Dodge Van. As of now it has the dual exh system that my father's father would have been proud of.

As soon as the truck gets out of the muffler shop the 318 is going bye-bye and a true 1978 E58 coded 360 is going to be the torque master in this 1970 W100. The freeze plugs and cam chain with gears are being replaced at this time.

More to come....( as funds permitt )
