318 Manual to 360 Auto Engine Swap - 77 Dodge D100

Post by gta77dodge »

I am new here and see that my truck may be a little bit newer than what is discussed; maybe someone has the knowledge I am looking for; 1977 Dodge D100 (2wd); currently has a 318 ; 3 speed manual "on the tree"; looking to pull the trigger on a completely rebuild 360 engine and tranny swap; I am aware of the drivers side engine mount space issue; I am concerned with the 360 oil pan setting in properly and clearing the cross member; also if the 727 auto tranny will go in without any clearance issues; going to have a bit of $$ sunk into swap and new motor and tranny; looking for a trouble free swap; any recommendations on floor shifters for new auto trans; thanks a lot for anyone's thoughts and advice.

Engine bracket can be spaced.
727 came in the trucks, Just have to determine correct tailshaft and shift brackets assembly etc.
Pan/pickup will need to be a truck.
My truck is younger than me.

318/360 are both sm block mopar would think everything would swap over
thinking just need to find trans mount, cross member steering column
not sure if your find anything here ...swept lines died off in 72 on light duty

Thoughts that come to mind.
Floor shifter or factory column and linkage
Kick down linkage
Trans cooler lines and does your radiator have the trans cooler
I think the 3 speed uses the 904 trans output splines, not the 727
Oil pans are different between 318 and 360. Believe you will need to find a truck pan.
Motor mount is different on one side
360 is external balanced so you need the balanced torque converter or if you 727 came from a neutral balanced 318 you can buy a aftermarket balanced flex plate.
I'm not sure what gearing, tire size or cam that you are putting in the rebuilt 360. But you might look into the first generation of od transmissions. I think it's similar to the 727 with just a switch to engage overdrive.

It been decades. But I think the curved part at the rear of the pan was different.
