Fuel filter brand?

I went for a small ride over to a friends house today and it started to spit and sputter (almost quit running) just as I got there. I opened the hood and guess what I saw? Fuel filter was blocking the exit to the carb. So.... What fuel filter are you guys using in your line? Mine fell apart and started to BLOCK the fuel flow into the carb. I do NOT know what "brand" this one is. Probably "China"? I'm GLAD it was a see through type, because if it was all metal... then I wouldn't been able to "figure it out" as easy.

I had the same issue last month. That filter had a steel enclosure, but you could hear the filter rattling around inside of it when shaking it.

I replaced it with a WIX filter, which is also made in China. I couldn't find a USA filter. WIX typically offers quality filters. So I was hoping their manufacturing specifications and quality control would result in a quality China filter.

I bought a spare fuel pump at the same time--a Carter. It was also manufactured in China.

Thanks!! I'll get one of those WIX filters "next time" I actually had another one of those "China" filters.... so let's see what happens. I NEVER had one do that before.

OH... and a side note, even though the FILTER fell away from the carb/exit end I could still blow through it and I could also SEE light through the filter, so it was NOT blocking my fuel flow. Which makes me wonder why it was starting to spit and sputter... well... time will tell!

I used one of those Chinese plastic filters once on an engine run stand. After breaking in the cam I could see the element bouncing around inside, never again. Now I use motorcraft fuel injection filters on my mopars.

Also happened to me last year, couldn't believe it. I now run two filters, one under the truck and one at the carbs. I check them periodically just to make sure they are both functioning.

Same here. I was en route from MN to AL when this occurred and it was particularly pronounced when climbing grades. I'm going to speculate that the added gravity placed the broke loose component against the outlet, covering it and restricting flow. Once I was running on flat ground, it only happened a few times and once stopped, the problem would clear for a few hundred miles. I managed to make it to AL before replacing it.

^^^ I am needing a new inline filter on my W600 318. Also I need a new fuel pump. Saddens me that even Carters & probably Holley too now are made in China. The $30 parts store pumps go bad extremely fast.

I’m not sure what the part number is but it fits an 87 ford f 150 with a 5 liter.
It’s about 3 inch diameter so it looks a little out of place so I mounted it in the frame where it won’t be seen.
As an added bonus it has more surface area in the filter element which should make it last longer and flow easier.

Never trust anything with Chinese elastomers, whether seals, diaphragms, inner tubes, tires... They just don't get the chemistry right, and from what I can tell, they don't care to learn how.

if your using the ford fuel filter you might want to look into the plastic quick connects for that filter
they make a barbed line connection ,i might even run the plastic lines when i move my tank to the rear

I thought about that too but it was too late. I put new steel lines on before I decided to use that filter.
I did however expand the ends of the filter slightly to help keep the hose from coming off
