3 speed to automatic

Post by 68swep »

Can anyone point me in the direction or a write up for a 3 speed manual to an automatic? I have a 68 with 3 in the tree I want to get a 727 automatic in. Looking for parts/help with it like if I need a different cross member, etc .. Thanks.

Its rather complex.
Parts needed, maybe more:
Tranny
Crossmember
Replacement spanner for current crossmember
Drive line
Dash
Dash shifter and cable
Auto trans radiator and coolant lines
Steering column w/o the shifter (optional)

Donor truck would be best.
Transmission
Fab a cross member
The transmission uses a kickdown linkage to the carb. I would think most cars or trucks could be made to work. Or there are aftermarket products.
A shifter. Stock or aftermarket
A radiator with trans cooler. The trans cooler lines from any vehicle would probably work.
Drive shaft.

Yikes! Ya, im not ready for all that. I appreciate the help and advice! Im going to look into going the NP435 route to go 4 speed. I recently put a new clutch in my 3 on the tree along with a nex drive shaft and Im guessing an np435 may change that. I may just wait a while until my new clutch goes out. Thanks again!
