Summit Racing offers the Carter mechanical fuel pumps at a good price.

Thanks,
I won't pull the current pump just yet until I see how the other changes work out.

While I haven't had any ignitions issues, I suspect the fire damaged some of the wiring. While that's a simple fix I have been in contact with a supplier about getting a new Joe Hunt magneto. I can now eliminate a considerable amount of wiring & put it in a box for any future owner of the truck.

Today I finally removed the tank from the cab & the sender from the tank.

(A)What little liquid that remained in the tank was milky/silty looking & stank like it was originally gasoline but no longer. Tank didn't have any major crud in it but does seem to have a slight film/residue on the bottom, similar to when you soak a dirty paint brush in mineral spirits and it leaves residue on the bottom of the bucket. It was on the float too.

(B) The brass float had a pin hole in the groove where it clipped into the wire arm. Thus it contained gas & won't float, hence the perpetual Empty reading.

(C)No sock or filter on the inlet pick-up tube & it was probably 50% clogged with debris. I ran a rat tail file in to the first bend, then blew it out each way with compressed air. It's so much better but I want to snake something completely through to make sure there are zero restrictions inside.

So everyone was correct in suggesting removing the tank. Once it get a clean fuel system & rebuilt carb in place along with the new magneto this horse should be much more reliable.

Glad to hear that Bucky! Its always a huge relief to find the cause of so much grief! :Thumbsup
Maybe a .22 caliber bore cleaning brush and patches will clean that tube nicely.

It is probably worse thinking about it, than doing it. Then again, I'm thinking that truck must be a mile high to the cab floor.

I actually do have a gun bore cleaning kit. It's a Sears Ted Williams & is probably 60 years old. But it won't get past the first bend on the tube.

And the cab floor is about 42" off the ground.

Today I was in the wife's employ ALL DAY, plus we have guests staying with us, so no progress was attempted nor made.

Finally a bit of progress,

I got the tank cleaned out, using a gun bore cleaning kit & pressurized water. Probably not 100 % but I'm fairly comfortable she will flow well now & a good clear inline filter will catch any whatnots. I did a final slosh & rinse with good non ethanol gasoline before reinstalling the tank, truck seat & reconnecting everything. It's possible that it may leak if I ever fill it full, those gaskets at the sender & filler neck look questionable. Taking it out again will be much easier as I now know the procedure. I'm just sick of working on this pig.

I got most of the wiring redone & put back in, although I did some modifying to my own liking. I still have to wire up the voltage regulator & fix my turn signals.

Joe Hunt Magneto is taking their sweet time getting my mag built. Was originally told 10 days, then when I called on day 13 they said probably another week. Tomorrow is day 21. :banghead :banghead :banghead

And I haven't ordered a carb kit either.

Tomorrow (Saturday) is will be 90 here. Tuesday morning will be 39. I hate Texas weather.

Thanks Martincom,
I will order those if my tank leaks or emits vapors.
The love for this vehicle has wore off for me in the past couple of years.
