Engine & Trans Swap

Post by RKT »

Hello,

I’m in the early planning stage of doing an engine and trans swap. My plan is to remove the original 318 Poly and NP435 trans from my 1965 D100 2wd pickup. Then install a 400 low deck with an A833 OD (1975) trans that came out of one of my other project cars.

The front engine mounts from the 318 Poly initially look like they may work with the 400?

Also I need to determine what transmission crossmember I can use?

I’m also planning on fabricating a bracket to use a clutch slave cylinder for the driver side of the A833. Has anyone done that before?

I have found some information from a few years back on the forum. I thought I would check and see if there’s any new information, advice or things to look up for that you can give me?

Thank you for the help!

My Buddy installed a 360 A833OD combo in a 66 D100 using a fabricated bracket to actuate mechanical clutch bellhousing. You will have to fabricate a rear crossmember for trans to sit on and cut out existing bellhousing mounted crossmember. Maybe add custom reinforcement frame to bridge gap similar to automatic trucks using that crossmember. :thinking :thinking :thinking :thinking

Years ago I had a 440 in my 66 W100 and I used the original 318 Poly brackets to work with the 440. I may have modified 1 or both. That was 46 years ago.
:thinking :salut

440 source sells new engine mounts that fit big block mopar and bolt in your truck. I have also been told the motor home mounts work with minor modification.
Good luck with your project.

Thank you for the help! I thought I read somewhere that the 727 auto crossmember off of these trucks was an option. Can anyone confirm that?

I also found this as a possible solution for the hydraulic clutch setup.

If you can fabricate no need to spend that coin. :thinking
