A833 installation/adapting

Post by DraytonCalhoun »

I have a ‘68 D100 shorty, 225 3 speed. V8 bellhousing. I have an A833 4 Speed (actually I have 3) that I want to install. Anyone that’s tried this before knows tranny will not mate up to the bellhousing. My question is, has anybody come up with a way to adapt this? I’m locating a CNC shop to perhaps make a plate out of 1/4” steel, but I would prefer something a bit more cost effective. The trans came out of a ‘70 Hemi Challenger. I know I need a 23 spline disc and appropriate throw out bearing.

The way my buddy did his 66 D100 was to change to a later mechanical bell housing/Flywheel and clutch assembly with the hydraulic slave adapted on a custom bracket to work. The hydraulic bellhousing and related trans etc were tossed.

"The trans came out of a ‘70 Hemi Challenger."

Can you post the partial VIN on it please?

I should have written it ‘supposedly’ came out of a Hemi Challenger. According to the guy I got it from many years ago.

If it has a 0B VIN prefix, I can check it for you.

I do believe it would be an 18 spline if it was original from behind a hemi.
