I went through multiple mechanical fuel pumps a couple of years ago. They suck right out of the box.

Its odd how these things pop up every time you fill up.

Martincom, we have a gremlin breeding ground nearby, I am sure of it.

Bucky, I am sorry to hear about your mechanical fuel pump problems, but I am glad to hear that it's common, I am hoping that's the issue. I would've changed the pump myself but it was parked on the street in town and I couldn't really start pulling fuel lines out on main street.

Here is the carb from parts box. 2287 is the number on the underside. This looks to me like the correct carb, but I am not sure. If so, it seems complete, and perhaps I can rebuild or send it to be rebuilt.

Yes, that may be the original carb. The 2287 is a casting number. The carb model number is typically stamped, not cast, on the face of the throttle body, on Carters. Also, don't remove the throttle plates unless you have to. If you do, you'll likely need to replace the screws.

I don't know who is building a good fuel pump now. I use to purchase a Carter, that was re-buildable, for my high performance applications.

Mechanic called. It was the fuel pump, the arm broke off and pieces were scattered about. They got it cleaned out and running.

Now I'm on the hunt for a timing cover to fix my coolant leak. Not to start a debate, but does anybody have thoughts about some stop-leak? Not worth gumming up the works, OR a viable short-term solution until I find a timing cover?

Carb in pic is identical to one on my 62. Its missing some parts.
Stop leak has never worked for me.
I've had leaky timing covers, around the 2 ports into the block. Have a few stashed around here for that issue, but they're not easy to locate.

I found a timing cover on Ebay that looks like a match, it is cast iron, does it matter?

By the way. Truck is back home, new fuel pump is working good, it seems pretty happy for now.
