71 W200 Clutch issues. (me moaning and groaning)

Post by oldfrogdiving »

So for the first time since buying it in 2018 my beater 300 dollar ish 71 W200 has failed me! clutch went out the other day I crawled under there, removed inspection cover noticed that the T/O bearing was off the fork, spent some time getting a bushing from a riding lawn mower A arm on the engine block side of linkage which really made it less sloppy (Mechanical clutch). Got that all sorted popped the T/O bearing back on fork clutch. Drove about 3 miles and it went out again. I just had to have my right hip beefed up with more screws, its hurting like a son of a gun so crawling under this thing with my battered body is proving painfull.
When I was inspecting it again I notice cracked metal on the face of the clutch near where the T/O bearing meets, I have pulled the same tranny (NP435) out of my 66 D200 slant 6, this looks a bit different. There are only 2 bolts holding the NP435 to the cross member and a intermediate shaft. The upper of the cross member is riveted to the Frame. I can get the tranny out ( Im laying in sand and stickers) working on a piece of 3/4 plywood (nothing new there). I guess im just blowing off steam until the tylonol kicks in, the rain stops so I can go back under. I LOVE THIS TRUCK!

A 66 435 is not the same as a 71 435.
Pull it all out, repair/replace/rebuild everything needed....problem solved.
People who won't pay to do it right, pay to do it twice.....do it right or do it again.

...do it right or do it again.
...and do it while you can still get the parts. By the time "again" arrives, they may not be available.
