NP435 4-speed transmission ID?
NP435 4-speed transmission ID?
Before I dig into the greasy mess under the truck, is there any kind of ID plate on the gear box?
If so, passenger side, driver side or ?
Thanks!

Re: NP435 4-speed transmission ID?
I found this tag on the passenger side mounted vertically between two of the PTO cover bolts.
The 7 digit number - 2515455 is likely the part number for the assembled unit.
The 435 is obvious.
Date code for the transmission final assembly date is 2-21-66.
So any clue what the DA-26B means?

Re: NP435 4-speed transmission ID?
Here’s the tag I just pulled off my 66 W200. The trans is not original because the date doesn’t add up and the other door plate says it had a different trans. What you thought might be the part number is likely a serial number? My guess is because if it was a part number wouldn’t it be the same as yours? The date is easy enough to recognize but I haven’t a clue as to what the
DL 68B means. Any ideas?

Re: NP435 4-speed transmission ID?
I'm probably wrong but while searching a few Ford and Chevy threads looking for info on the aluminum
tops and shifters, seems to me what little i saw there was a pattern like...
DA= Dodge close ratio
DL= Dodge wide ratio
FL= Ford wide ratio
GA= GM close ratio
I have a close and a wide ratio, but my wide has a D-1. Maybe he couldn't find his L just 5 minutes
till quitting time and said close enough. Seriously tho I would guess the -1 probably stands for a different
ratio option. Saying that jogged a memory,...think that -1 trans has a 3rd gear like a Ford ratio. Probably
wrong there too.
My close ratio.

Here’s a site with another piece of the puzzle.

I'll have to check to see if the ID tag is still on the transmission in my '70 now.

SteveH - Your transmission final assembly date is the same day my childhood pal Tina was born.

Re: NP435 4-speed transmission ID?
The truck vin plates and FSM NEVER show a letter after the "D". FSM only shows 435 and 435D. I have seen many vin plates that say 435, 435D, 435D-1 and 435D-3. This was discussed here yrs ago and somewhere there is a thread that has an explanation.
Re: NP435 4-speed transmission ID?
A link to that thread would be great, thanks!

Re: NP435 4-speed transmission ID?
Search brought up this:
https://www.sweptline.org/forums/search ... ords=435D3
This thread referenced something else, but I couldn't find the original:
https://www.sweptline.org/forums/viewto ... D3#p267343
The 70/71 FSM only lists 435 (wide) and 435D (close)
I don't remember the thread on what the difference of D1, D2, D3 is, (it wasn't synchros) but it is clear that the nomenclature was not the same in every yr for the same tranny

The ratio chart listed above is found in the 66 FSM specs, pg37, transmission (no 435 w/o a letter shown) (Doug's quote in the quote was incorrect)soopernaut wrote: ↑Tue Oct 21, 2014 11:34 amAccording to Terry's service manuals, the D3 appears to be a wide spaced ratio. I was under the impression that the D3 had to do with syncros.digdoug wrote:The "D3" is a close ratio 435.
