Headers

Post by BigBlockTrucks »

I’m sure this has been covered here before, but I’m asking mostly because there may be new options out there.
The 440 is almost ready for install.
With a hydraulic bell housing are there any options out there for headers? The cross member under the bell is in the way with the motor home headers. I’m not worried about ground clearance.
This is going in the w200 with a 435 trans.
Late 65 w 200.
Factory LU-2 winch.
Updates: 205 transfer case,4.10 gears, disc brake Dana 60 front with lock out hubs
440 repower in the works

60 d100
383 with 727
4 wheel disc
3.73 geared rear

Blockhuggers are the first thing that comes to mind. I had a set once, I think made by Sanderson.

Other than that I suspect you'd have to either fab up some from scratch or modify an existing design. If you choose that route don't limit yourself to just truck headers, take into consideration drag & marine applications too.

I gave up on the header battle years ago. The power gains weren't worth all the headaches of fitment, starter clearance & leaks. I was even tempted to use some puller type headers run vertically through the hood.

I’m not opposed to factory manifolds. Are there manifolds that fit that the chassis and have better flow and still work with this set up?
I can’t be the first guy that has gone down this road with these trucks.

Most likely the manifolds used on the 73-78 trucks will be the best fit.

Here is something similar:

I like it. It doesn't try to turn the gases too soon after they exit the port. Do you know the outlet diameter? It doesn't mention it on the seller's page.

I have 3 different BB exhaust manifolds. All have about a 2.4" diameter outlet. Mine aren't the same configuration as those mid 70s truck manifolds though.

I would suspect 2.25" would be good guess for those on the ebay link. Definitely no less than 2".
