Re: New cam for 440
I think higher compression pistons would benefit more than just a cam swap.

Re: New cam for 440
Depending on the pistons and compression ratio, it can wake it up, but I'd look at that first and go from there. Knowing your compression ratio, helps in cam selection. Too many factors to just say in general, compression ratio, lift, duration, lobe separation, etc.

If you can check out Engine Masters on Motortrend, they covered it with there motor home 440 on episode "The 440 you can afford" They used a Comp cams (Thumper grind) with 107 lc and 227/241 @.050 duration and a 486/473 lift, Steve Dulchish (spelling) explains it.
Re: New cam for 440
How much do you want to wake it up is the question. My cousin had a motor home 440 with cast crank and low compression. We stuck installed aluminum intake and 750 four barrel and headers. In a two wheel drive life style era truck it was awesome. Not a drag strip type thing but pulled hard.

Call Racer Brown Cams (410-866-7660), Jim Dorin will ask you about 20 questions for your application and send you a cam that will work perfect. I never use anything off the shelf any more.
